Being busy is a good thing -- as long as it's productive.
Being busy is also a good thing if it doesn't take up all of your time.
In our American society, we confuse busyness with productivity. That is, we could simply be "busy being busy" rather than be "busy being productive."
Animals are God's only creatures in this world that don't waste their time being busy on meaningless tasks. Whatever animals do have a purpose. Humans, however, somehow value the idea of being busy just for the sake of it! Because when we're busy, it somehow means that we're productive. But sadly, we usually spend our time being busy on worthless tasks.
Have you ever sat down at the end of the day and felt like you've accomplished nothing DESPITE all the hard work you did? Perhaps you did a lot of hard work for the sake of hard work instead for the sake of productivity.
If your busyness isn't taking you somewhere, then you're "being busy being busy." If all the hard work you're doing isn't leading up to something, then it's just simply hard work. And I don't know about you, but if I'm going to work hard, I BETTER reap something from it!
Farmers don't waste their time growing roses. The roses look pretty, but you typically don't eat them! Farmers grow what we could eat so that their hard work won't be in vain.
So, look at everything you're doing right now and ask if any of it is leading you somewhere. I'd say that most of the stuff we do on a daily basis leads nowhere and that we are just busy being busy.
Seek to be PRODUCTIVE, rather than BUSY. You could accomplish great things in two hours if your activity is productive. But you could spend the entire day on tasks that you won't benefit from.

Have you ever thought yourself out of doing something? If you have, then you are like me: an overthinker!
Man, sometimes I think so much that my body gets tired! I think and think and think some more -- and after all my thinking, I've just thought myself out of doing something!
I'm very sure that I've missed out on many opportunities because of this overthinking. Maybe there was a business opportunity that I thought too much about -- and ended up not doing it. That means one opportunity missed because of my over-active brain!
Sometimes, you just need to do it now and think about it later. If you have the tendency to think yourself out of presented opportunities, then you need to start practicing more ACTION and doing less THINKING.
You know, TOO MUCH thinking could actually be dangerous! You could think of problems that don't exist and probably won't EVER exist. You could think yourself into depression -- and when you're depressed, you won't want to do anything.
But the less you think and the MORE you do, the MORE opportunities you'd get, the MORE progress you'd make in your life, and most importantly, the LESS regrets you'd have in life.
Now this doesn't mean to jump into something foolishly! But don't take the entire year to decide what you want to do! If the opportunity presents itself, make a fairly quick decision about it if the opportunity could take you to a better place in life. Otherwise, you're going to think yourself out of it and would never know "what could have been."
My wife and I have several side businesses going on: fitness classes, CPR classes, and network marketing. We wanted to fuse all these businesses together into ONE business so that we could make a brand for ourselves. So we've registered the business name "NutritionFit NC."
BUT...well...we've finally decided that fusing everything together wasn't working out too well. Our first business attempt was with CPR classes. Then we've added network marketing. Then we've added online personal training, offline personal training, weight-loss competitions, ZUMBA fitness classes, small group personal training, and have attempted doing other fitness classes.
All of this was just too much! I didn't even know who we were anymore, and that lack of identity slowed down our business. So, we've decided to keep all of our side businesses separate from one another. We didn't care to build a brand for ourselves anymore: instead, we've decided to use other people's brands for our benefit!
One thing I've learned from years of doing our own business is the importance of just sticking with the basics.
Weight-loss is such a big buzz these days, and there are just so many theories as to how to lose weight. There are diet plans, supplements, books, classes, videos, etc. for weight-loss. It's hard to know what information is accurate and what information is fluff. But from experience, I've found that the best way to lose weight is getting back to the basics: eating more fruits and veggies, drinking more water and less sugary drinks, cut back on mindless snacking, and exercising hard.
Also, lots of patience. You didn't gain that weight overnight and you won't lose it overnight either!
When it comes to raising kids the best way, once again we have a TON of opinions and studies as to how to go about it. But from experience, the best way to raise your kids is to be a PARENT, not a BUDDY to your child: teach them to respect authority, give them limits, teach them life skills, and give consequences for bad behavior.
When trying to grow our business, we tended to complicate things. We've kept adding this, changing that, tweeking this, polishing that, and we were getting no where.
Sounds like life, doesn't it? In our attempts to get ahead, we get caught up in all the LATEST TRENDS thinking that one of those trends would be the answers to our success. But those latest trends are just that: trends. And with any trend, it would either work or don't work. It would either last or won't last. It would either benefit you or hurt you.
But you could never go wrong with sticking with the basics!
I'm also a part-time physical education teacher for a private Christian school. Of course I have to be THAT teacher who has the awesome class, who does things differently, who will be known as the best teacher in school. BUT...I've found myself not being happy with how I was running classes. These were kids, not adults, and these kids wouldn't be as open to the latest fitness trends as adults would be.
So, guess what? I just went back to the basics and arranged my class in a way that would get the kids in shape but would also be fun for them. With kids, the learning MUST be fun and engaging in order to have a successful class. When we stray away from the basics and start throwing in all these others things that are suppose to help the kids be successful...well...we just won't have a successful class.
Remember the time when kids used to learn through play? Whatever happened to that? Too much of the latest studies got in the way, and now kids hate learning.
You know, everything in life would be easier if we would just stick with the basics.
When opening your own business, you don't need to offer everything to your clients. Just offer them what they need. Let the other businesses offer them other things.
Instead of mixing everything together, we're just going to offer our services separately. This means wearing different hats during different times, but that's okay. We understand that the people we serve DON'T WANT EVERYTHING WE OFFER!
I'd much rather have several, separate yet successful businesses going than to have all these businesses fused together. If one business fail, then I have several more going for me. If I mix everything together into one business and that business fails, then I'd have nothing.
