Just Eat The Dang Candy!

No doubt you're starting to see articles about how to eat healthy for the holidays or how to control yourself for Halloween. When you take your kids trick-o-treating, you'll have access to bags full of goodies! And if you're trying to lose weight or trying to keep your weight under control, you'll try to keep away from all the sinful delights!

Now, there is no way you'll allow your kids to eat a boat-load of candy. But, you don't just want to throw it away. But you also know you shouldn't eat it.

Well, take my advice...

Just eat the dang candy!

Listen, splurging for one night is not going to kill you, or make you gain weight, or even give you cavities. So, just eat the freaking candy!

It's not about what you eat. It's about your habits. One night of splurging on treats is not going to hurt your body. If you've splurge every night, then you'd have problems. If you already know that you don't eat poorly on a regular basis, then why not treat yourself this one time?

Our family doesn't drink soda. We don't buy it. But whenever we're visiting friends or family or at a party, we "let loose!" Heck, it's not as if we drink soda at home or during our own time. After this party, we may not drink soda again until who knows when! So, why not let ourselves go for just this one time?

Same thing for the holidays. We don't make a habit of eating sweets and fatty foods. We eat healthy every night. But when we're at a Christmas party or Thanksgiving dinner, we let loose! Why be the downers at our party, telling people that we can't eat this or that? Heck, we go all out! And why not? It's just for this one time.

When you're trying to live healthy, you don't want to see food as the enemy. Candy, cake, fried foods, all of these foods are not your enemy. Seeing these foods as things to avoid is not having a healthy relationship with food.

One of my pet peeves is when health-conscious individuals tell others to stay away from "processed foods" or "fast foods" or "junk food." And of course you'll have articles about how certain foods automatically make you fat or give you diabetes like grains or fruit.

All food is good.  There are NO bad foods. Just bad habits.

Even a can of soda has something that the body could use: sugar.

No, I'm not advocating that you make a habit of pigging out on chips, ice cream, and wash everything down with a 24 ounce fountain soda. What I am advocating is to not see any food or drink as your enemy and to learn how to do everything in moderation.

Unless you're eating plastic or something that has absolutely nothing your body could use, then whatever you eat is good if eaten in moderation. Even a carrot could be toxic if you don't know how to eat it in moderation.

You might be the type who thinks there are foods you need to avoid. Maybe soy is from the devil, or grains are poisonous, or that some fruits could make you fat. Well, my stance is that as long as you're not having an adverse or allergic reaction to the food, then it's good to eat.

Enjoy your Halloween and your other holiday activities! And relax!
