Question: is it better to try to change your situation or to make the most from it?
Sometimes, you need to change your situation -- if you're able to. But often times, it's just better to make the MOST out of it. If you just focus on your current situation and learn how to thrive in that situation, you might find yourself very successful in ways that you haven't imagined.
For instance, when I was in New York City, I wanted to be a school teacher. But trying to be a teacher in a traditional way meant that I would have had to go back to school and do student teaching at a school where I wouldn't get paid. In my financial situation back then, I couldn't afford to do that.
So, I went for EMS. The schooling was affordable, I could go to night classes while I worked, and I lived with my mother rent-free. After obtaining my certification as an EMT, I was able to get a job within a month of completing the course.
Being an EMT opened the way for me to start my CPR training business. It has also opened the door for me to pursue a fitness career. Both of these career paths have provided for my family's financial needs and have opened doors for us to other opportunities.
We are ALL in situations that are made for certain successes. Instead of trying to change your situation, try to thrive in where you've been planted.
There's a story about a rich father who took his son out to the country to show what it was like to live in poverty. After the trip, the son made some observations. Three of those observations were:
Then the son said to the father that this trip made him realize how poor HIS family was.
Not sure how true the story is, but it has a good message, doesn't it?
You see, we are all in different situations in life. We shouldn't try to see one situation as better than the other, but we should see each situation as offering different opportunities for us.
Is this to say to not pursue your dreams? Well...not necessarily. What I am saying is to open your mind to other opportunities that your situation is giving you. Would you rather spend years in stress trying to obtain something that your situation doesn't allow? Or would you rather spend a year with little stress trying to obtain something that your situation does allow?
Just like plants thrive in conditions that promotes their growth, you need to thrive in conditions that promote your growth. We are all in situations that promote our growth. Just sit back and look at what opportunities are presented to you and go for those opportunities. Maybe one day in the future you would get what you always wanted, but until that time, look at what you can do right now.
